Group visits
Groups are very welcome at The Sherlock Holmes Museum. Our welcoming, knowledgeable guides in period costume will give your group an introduction to the house in Holmes’ study, then the rest of your visit is self-guided, taking as long as you want to enjoy the experience.
You are very welcome to visit the Museum as a group, and there is no maximum limit on group size; however due to the small size of the rooms at 221B and our desire to give you an authentic, immersive experience we only allow 15 visitors into the house at one time.
If you are planning to visit as a group of more than 15 please be aware that we will ask you to divide your group – some can then comfortably browse the gift shop or wait outside while the others tour the house, and we’ll direct your groups accordingly. That way everyone gets to experience the intimacy of Sherlock Holmes’ lodgings without crowding.
If you are bringing a group of children, please note at least one responsible adult will be required for every 14 children.
(Buying tickets is easy: just come along on the day and purchase your tickets at the door. If you are looking for a specific time, you can pre book your tickets online. Unfortunately, we don’t offer advance group bookings or discounts. To avoid queuing for long, especially in the summer months, it is recommended to arrive as soon after 09.30 as you can. We regret we do not currently accept tour operator vouchers.)
Our welcoming, knowledgeable guides in period costume will give your group an introduction to the house in Holmes’ study, then the rest of your visit is self-guided. You can spend as long as you like in the Museum to suit your group, but we find most visits take between 30-45 minutes, including time to browse the shop.
